Capacitor as only power source

EDIT<><><><>

3000 Farad * 54
2.7v

…Caps/144v line…AH (RECALC)
BCAP3000-P270-T04…54…1.13

After looking over the numbers again this week I think that the equations I was using to calculate AH were incorrect as E=1/2CV^2 yields only 0.164 kwhr.

Apologies for the bad math.

I read an article about the students at BYU that used Capacitors for the fuel source but it was good for only a 20 sec burst…

If you are right, then this would be a system to look into…

How would you recharge them.

Keith

HID lighting seems to draw very little current yet provides a large power source.

Is it a capacitor based system and if so could it be used to recharge the capacitors?

I’ve looked at the major ultracapacitor companies, so far I’ve only seen 5000F at 3.9 volt or 90volt at 250F. Since a farad come out to be about an amp/sec. even 10 of them, (and they are around a cubic foot for that voltage). Barely makes 6 amp hours, and the voltage is dropping the entire time. I havent looked at the cost lately, but other than to store regeneration, I dont see powering an entire car with it. They are improving all the time maybe soon someone will have a breakthrough. P.S. I’m talking confirmed delivery dates of less than 30 days, not empty promises.

20 Seconds sound great for drag racing.

Can you send me a link to that article.
