Buying a Gem Car

Hello, I am thinking of buying a Gem Car. I have found a 2000 825 that I am interested in but I am told that it has been sitting for 5+ years.

I am sure the batteries will need to be replaced… It may need an entire rebuild…

Any thoughts of what I should look out for? Advice?

Thanks for the help.

hi… that is a big decision to make… you say it’s a 2000… if you can get it for a good price… it could be a real steal… is there a GEM or cart dealer close… if may be worth the cost to have some look at the car…if on a site are there lots of photos… have you talked to the seller… are you close enough to see it before you buy…
is there a website that the car can be seen on?
I think my car sat for three or 4 years… it was being sold with dead batteries as well… when I said I needed the batteries to at least work enough to get it on and off the truck… the seller fond the charging cord was faulty and recharged the batteries… I drove the car another 1000 miles before replacing the batteries…

Thanks for responding Bob. The car was local so I was able to see it in person. I did purchase it Saturday…

The batteries are shot, so first order is to purchase 6 Trojans T-1275’s.

My thoughts were to gut it out and then see what was salvagable. The frame, body, roof etc seem to be in good order, so I believe it will make a good car soon.

I plan on upgrading everything, so a good platform is what I needed.

Thanks for the info!

that is very ironic i just restored one. I ran Into a few problems but nothing major i have had some help with people on here but if u need any help send me a message i will be glad to help you. if you dont mind messaging me with some photos or posting them on here, anyways If you can get it cheap You can score Big time

I did steal it… Thanks for the offer, this is my first project of this kind.

Did you find it hard to find parts for the 2000? I am wanting to go with newer seats, dashboard etc. Did you move up in some areas, and if so was it a task?

Very curious, I hate to just go buy parts and find that they will not fit the 2000.

Thanks! I will get some pic’s up this weekend.

anything that says GEM has $$$ attached… I had my seats reupholestered at a ‘top shop’… about a hundred bucks… the dash would be harder to find… look on eBay… there is a cart shop in the LA area who parts out GEM cars from time to time… they are in Costa Mesa… a link below is his store… as well as a link to Daniel’s list of non-GEM replacement parts

Thanks for the info Bob, I will look into it…

This job thing keeps getting in the way of the important stuff.

Thanks, Jim

Whatever you may need, someone on here can likely find it or tell you how to make it. Just ask.
