AC motor hybrid options

I’ve read how AC motors offer regenerative braking capability, and my understanding is that when the wheels provide the force to turn the motor, electricity is produced.

So, (and this might be totally unworkable) If you had a complete EV system built around an AC motor and added a trailer towing a second AC motor driven by an ICE, would that second motor produce enough electricity to power the EV motor?

Depends on how many Wh per mile the car uses with the generator off. If it runs around 300Wh/mi, and you want to go 50 mi/hour and drive one hour, it’d take a 15kW generator… ant that isn’t going to be tiny, but its doable to extend range.
