30HP Brushless motor upgrade on 2003 GEM

This is how the new gearbox mounts…

Found a picture of another classic gear box with flanges added for 2016 Gem.
I don’t believe it to be a problem. I need to find this a home and test the potential of ME3031 motor torque.

It’s exactly like that one Dave

You can part with it, right? I just want it tested.
Was hoping for one of the usual suspects!
Looking for 2003 picture to see if flanges interfere.

Looks ok! Trimming maybe.

Here’s my car:

Looks like it would clear it.
How much are you looking to get for it?
PM if you prefer.

I don’t know if those welded on plates will clear without being - just saying
They might be far enough to the sides…

If you are doing this for testing I can recase the gear set reasonably. The flanged gear setup with special axles was designed as a quiet alternative for 2016 up GEMS. It was subsequently was upgraded to 6to1 for Dave but the project died, I still think that the package should go in a new model GEM.

We can’t source 1/2 shafts. @MikeKC had some nice ones made but an inch short. IIRC

Confirmed that I have a 10.35:1 gear box. I found a used 2001 8.9:1 gearbox that will be a better compromise between top speed and hill climbing (my neighborhood has long hills).
I’ll see how that performs and decide if 6:1 makes sense to test - I really appreciate the knowledge, experience and willingness to help of this group!

Must resist…

Sometimes the jokes just write themselves…

What is your tire height? Are you hip to the RPM calculator?
21x8.9

I have no doubt big pmac can turn the tall gears.
Try it first no risk.
Any other takers?
I may need to buy a car myself. I’m in a gem-less part of the country.

Thx. I have a calculator in excel. I tried ChatGPT once, It got the equations right, but did the math wrong LOL

Use the dana spicer calcs. work nice.

pmac torque

3500 rpm is the sweet spot.

Dave, i was just thinking about this last night, that an eM probably has ample room for that fat stubby pmac.

A strpped down eM with a pmac and 6.1 gears… lose the hydraulic ram and the bed sides to cut weight above the CG and that thing could probably drift a corner doing a full burnout.

If only i had time.

The only thing that scares me with this concept are all the tiny components between the motor and the ground.

When does the torque monster start twisting stuff?
Sounds like GEM-Skunkworks needs to start sourcing bigger and better?

yes, yes I did and they are to short…

Rangers are like 45 hp, not sure on the torque offhand, but i feel that an eM could probably handle it since its on a ranger frame

Just reprogram it. Wide open. Swap to a S6 like the ranger. Might be S6 now but doubt it. I can give you Ranger oem dcf. Batteries? Hv maybe?
