2018 paint defect on aluminum--Any one else with this problem?

So I got a 2018 previously owned by Sharp Healthcare in San Diego. I’ve owned Gems, but never saw the hammertone finish flake off like this Gem. The rest of the paint is in good condition. If you look at the service manuel it is a seperate aluminum piece. But I would have to unglue the roof and window. Don’t going to go that route. Any suggestions? I like the factory hammertone finish and want to duplicate. Thanks in advance

I think that’s the result of just being left outside & sun damage. My 2016 lived outdoors b4 I bought it. It has a very small spot on the roof hoop that looks like yours where it looks the the finish is very thin and the paint is just gone???

Yes I agree, removing the roof hoops to refinish them would require quite a bit of unnecessary work including the removal of the front and rear window so, your most practical and economical solution would be to either refinish it yourself or have a qualified body shop do it.

I have not looked into the home DIY Kits but the Ceracote finish is Very durable check into it on YouTube they use it for Guns and other parts that take a beating.

Here ya go. Which Cerakote Kit Is Right For You? - YouTube

Grant–Why do you have to put the bar so high?? :disappointed_relieved: Cerakote looks interesting, let me round up a hood, heater etc. I looked at a few videos and feel that Cerakote is just too many steps for an old fart like me. Plus, not sure I could get a hammertone finish. This frame finsh is the last detail I will do for this Gem. So I’ll wait on warmer weather. I’ll post a follow up picture in a few months

Shoot… It looks like you could almost knock off the loose stuff with a wire brush and roll on some flat black with a weenie roller.
