Good afternoon, I have a GEM e4 2018 model. When I plug the charger in,the light on charger just stays solid green. The indicator on the dash shows an empty battery with the letter C on the left side. Vehicle runs, but something is going on with the charge procedures. Can anyone help me with this??
Still can’t figure out why it won’t take a charge, and the meter display says empty. Help
Are you sure it is not taking a charge? It could be out of sync with the battery.
What is actual V at the battery? (check it with your hanheld digital meter)
Disconnect your small battery under dash for a couple mins and reconnect.
Ok,I will try that, and I will ck voltage and report back
Ok,I disconnected the battery under dash for 5 minutes. Also got to battery pack, and it is at 50.8,so all that seems to be ok. I have a couple pics of the charger while it was charging also. Main problem is just the display on the battery voltage on dash. Any ideas where to ck next? Also this cart runs perfect
Also, does this unit have a kill switch on it? I remember the older stuff had a switch on the bottom of dash you could switch off. I like to kill all power before I hook up or disconnect anything. Also still don’t have a read out on the battery indicator in the gauge cluster. Jist shows an empty battery.
Is there anybody in this group that has any mechanical knowledge on my issue? Help
Q-> When you plug this car in to charge, does the dash display change modes and a C appear next to the battery bar display?
Give me just a couple minutes, and I will go plug it in. Gotta be something simple I hope lol
There is a “C” by the indicator when plugged in to charger
K- I seem to recall suggesting earlier a BMC reset by disconnecting the small pony battery. This did not work? How long did you leave it disconnected?
It looks like this issue has been ongoing for a while. How many charge cycles has it been since you performed the BMC reset?
I haven’t ever done a reset. I left the battery negative disconnected for about 5 minutes. I can donit again if you would like
Ok,I just unhooked the positive side. I will let it sit for a an hr and try it again. Also another question, this thing has a solar panel on top. I am wanting to change the batteries out. Is there a main cutoff on this unit? I don’t want a bunch of arcs and sparks while performing this.
this thing has a solar panel on top.
That is interesting. It doesn’t sound like a factory option.
What is the history of this car?
Can you tell if it was added on by the PO?
You need to follow the wires and find out how it is hooked into the car.
Most likely this panel is meant to charge the little pony battery only and is possible it is keeping the 12v system from doing the reset procedure. It would explain why the first attempt did not fix your SOC issue.
Is there a main cutoff on this unit?
AFIK there is not. The 2016+ cars are a whole different design and the car systems are not meant to be shut down.
I will be back with it in about an hr. This vehicle came like it is. I will ck all that when I get back.
Ok,I put cable back on battery under dash. Still no display. I checked to solar panel wires, they run off to somewhere else. There is 14.2 volts on the small battery under dash.
The wires on the small under dash battery are in the factory loom.
Still no display.
This is where you need to be more specific.
“Still no display” is totally different than “display lights up but shows empty battery”.
I checked to solar panel wires, they run off to somewhere else.
Also - Since this car is in your possession, you need to do some detective work. “Going off somewhere else” does not mean much to me.
Look close at the wires coming off panel. What do they look like?
Do they happen to look like the zip cord lazily run around a couple of loops, changes to a yellow wire, then a fuse then ends up attaching to the battery? Also look at it’s mate going to the NEG that has a slightly different ring terminal crimped to the wire.
Both of those wires/zip cord don’t look like they are part of the factory loom.
What am I missing?

How close is your dealer? It may be time to run it over and have him plug this car into his machine and check the software.
