2014 E4 code 64

Hey all! My cart is showing code 64 when I release the parking brake. I replaced the controller with a known working one and nothing. has anyone ran across this issue?

Label me persnickety, but (to me) there is a big difference between “Nothing” and perhaps you were meaning to say “no change in symptoms”.
In the future, be a little more descriptive. Statements like this could lead to inaccurate suggestions.

I will take my translation…

From the T4 tech document. (You probably have a T5, but I suspect the code is the same)

-64 - The line driver input (P2-17) is less than 12% of battery volts
This status code will be displayed when the control detects that the line driver input (P2-17) is less than 12% battery volts when the key switch is turned on.

=====
This code is part of the controller boot safety check that happens at KeyON.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

  • Open wire connection to Pin 17 on control
  • Open connection between line contactor coil and battery positive.
  • Open contactor coil
  • Defective control. - Shorted line driver transistor

Q - What is going on with your Main Contactor? (relay) Are the small wires connected?

Do you have a handheld Volt Meter?

Test this:

  1. Main Batt Sw ON, KeyON,
  2. Black meter probe Ref B- (on front of PSDM, right side lower connect)
  3. Red meter probe → Measure for B+ on BOTH sides of the coil (the small wires) You should see B+ on the 18ga Org wire, and B+ on the 18ga Bk/DkGrn wire.

Verify (Y/N?)
What do you get?

On the orange side i got 76.4
And on the black with dark green, I got 3.70

Sorry for the late response and yeah i meant no change is symptoms still having the same error code on the display

Replace Main Contactor (big relay).

That fixed it! Thank you.

Did you have to look that word up ??

Where is the best source for GEM parts? I’m having a hard time sourcing parts for mine.

What part do you need?

Depends on year model of gem. I find a lot on amazon. I always look at alternate sources before I go to those specializing in gem parts. They are always more expensive. If you have a part number or a good description, google it. A few people here on the site actually have parts or can repair some of them. Just ask …

I somehow lost the castle nut and shoulder washer that holds the cv to the rim. I’ve not been able to find the part number for it on any of the documentation that I have. It is a 2004 E4

I have found parts that work on amazon for very reasonable. Lots of parts on my gem look to be more or less universal, but this shouldered washer that the castle nut sits on top of is pretty unique.

There’s a guy in the phoenix/Scottsdale area that has a “wrecking yard” and sells on eBay. (I think it gem car parts are us or something like that). He will probably have them. Somebody here on this site also might… That being said… Take the samples over to your local NAPA auto parts. The spacer might be difficult, but I would bet the farm that they can match up the castle nut. I’m assuming you have an older gem because you haven’t mentioned running down to the local Polaris dealership…

yeah it is a 2004. I’m assuming that counts for older. The nut I’m not super concerned with finding. The shouldered spacer is the tough one. I’ll get out the ebay guy. Thanks for the info there.
