There shall be a lot of light. You will be surprised at how bright they actually are.
This winter I am pulling all the lights off my gem except for the headlights, filling all the body holes and using LED DOTs for all the lights, brakes, turn signals etc… Planning on painting it so it is a good time to ditch all the battery killers.
Hmmm
GEM lights draw 2 amps (3 with brake lights.) Insignificant in the scheme of things.

Ok, so I will do it because they are much cooler IMO…BTW all draws on a battery system are significant. I would rather have the juice for my stereo…Plus I like the LED Dot’s better. They are crazy bright and about the size of a pencil eraser or a AAA battery. Its hard enough to customize these since everything has to be “custom made” since nothing is sold OTC…Lift kits, cool racks etc… Paint and a wrap, lights and rims are easy DIY stuff…
Someone recently posted some pictures of a custom LED headlight installation. Looked good. Since this is a Newbie thread that seems to have been hijacked how about starting a new thread on this subject.
I just bought a 2015 here in Florida from a dealer and we are not required to have a title or registration. A lot of huge communities are on privatized roads here and they treat them as golf carts. My neighborhood is roughly 20 square miles and we can acess all public facilities without even touching a city owned road. 75% of the home owners drive unregistered carts/gems around. The only document I needed was my sales contract to register it with my HOA. I assume a lot of florida residents do not want to register and waste money on it if they don’t have too. Yeah I got insurance on it but that’s all… Smooth sailing.
It maybe true for your area. How ever then it is a golf Cart and limited to 19 MPH for the dealer to maintain his license and avoid liability. If he modifies it to go faster and you are involved in an accident the Plaintive can sue him as well as you.
I’ve done the same as you here in Del Tura… N Fort Myers. Its easy to get it titled if you ever wanted to in FL. Don’t let the worry warts frighten you… the sky might fall also (LOL).
Hi Folks - New here and I am interested in buying a gem e4. It’s a 2010, brand new maintenance free batteries, hard doors and the storage box in the back. They want 9750.00. I saw a new one is about 15,000 with doors installed. Any opinions on whether or not this is a fair price?
I’m not sure what the 10 should go for… $2000 for any e4 is a steal… guess if you think the asking price is fair and can afford it buy it… I’d decide what I’d pay then offer a lower price… make a game out of it start at $5000 and see if they’d come off the current selling price… don’t know if you can check the blue book for a price… look at eBay see if there are any for sale there… if you have time check Craigslist listings
WAY to high… I bought my 2008 centennial limited edition in “The Villages” for half that. The owner had a invoice from whenthe bought it from the GEM stealer for 15K. When the sales tax and dealer prep fees were added it was right at 16K.
You will find many more GEM’s for sale when the snow turds come down this winter. That is the season to buy GEM’s in “The Villages”. This is the slow season now, they have all gone home (Thank you). C. List is the best place to look (this fall/winter) or the village news paper on line. Google is your friend.
If you pay that price now… ask for your Kiss, they may call you in the morning also.
Laura I forgot the welcome to the forum… there is a GEM car club in the Villages and a group on facebook GEM car club… also there is a group GEM car photos… neither require a car… also feel free to ask for help here we all will try to give you that too
Yes… Welcome to the forum. Its worth the wait to look around for a few months to buy your GEM. “The Villages” is the perfect place to find a low millage GEM and to drive one in! You’ll absolutely love owning and driving a GEM. Don’t let any nay say’ers talk you into to buying a old fashioned golf cart. I’ve had one for 15 years. I wish that I would have bought a GEM… way back when. Its a beautiful way to meet new people. Much more fun to drive and better protection from the rain and cold in mid Florida.
You don’t really need hard doors. Too hot in the summer. Please consider soft doors. You will be plenty warm enough on the few cold days in mid FL. More GEM’s for sale with soft doors and cheaper to buy. Trust me…
I agree with Jerry… GEM car is a car and not a golf cart… when you get yours you will have a ball with it… I live in Denver CO and drive my car year round… just came back from a car show… love to go sit in the sun… or like today we had a little rain… either way I’m only one of three GEM cars in the area and haven’t seen the other two in a couple of years… people have questions so I do a lot of standing and talking… I go just to talk GEM car not looking for fame or glory
Thanks guys. I even looked at a Smart car on Craigslist for 2000.00 but was a scam…wanted to ship it to me. LOL
I’ll keep looking…that’s one thing I love about the villages…I’m never in a hurry!
