The Mystery of GEM IR Compensation #11 setting on T1 and T2 GE Controllers

I have been asked about setting #11 several times in the past.

This setting controls the Battery State of Charge read out on your Display for GEM cars thru 2004. The normal suggested setting is either 3 or 5 for most cars.

In many cases, this setting will give you an indication that your batteries are being depleted faster than they actually are. If you read the Display percentage and then take a voltage reading and compare it to a State of Charge chart, it may surprise you to see that you have a lot more charge than the Display reads.

If you find that your indicator reading is going down faster than the battery is going down reduce the setting.

Conversely, if you find your charge is going down faster than indicated, increase the setting. (I have never experienced this)

In my case My 2002 2 seat with AGM battery’s ended up with a setting of 2.

Why is this important:

If you adhere to the rule that you should not let your State of Charge get below 50% before you recharge . You can realize more miles of travel before you have to hook up the charger.

Assuming that you have a good battery pack you only have to read (1) battery.

12.6 volts = 100%

12.5 volts = 90%

12.4 volts = 80%

12.3 volts = 70%

12.2 volts = 60 %

12.1 volts = 50%

11.9 volts = 40%
