Temp Sensor Goes On

Any ideas on why the high temp sensor goes on after 7 or so miles on my 2005 E2. It was doing it periodically now consistently after about 7 miles. Then engine slows to crawl. Ideas appreciated.

It happens because your motor is hot. WHY?

To answer that we need to know a couple of things.

1 Model of cart
2 Year of cart
3 Motor Hp and model (GE short 5, GE long 5, GE 7)
4 Gearbox ratio
5 Model of controller
6 Tire diameter and type (road, turf, off road, etc)
7 Controller model and detailed list of modifications to stock program.
8 Topography of the area you are traveling, and surfaces.
9 Out side temperature when event occurs.
10 Speed of travel.
11 Number of passengers on board
12 Time and distance traveled at steady full throttle mode before problem occurs.
13 Detailed list of any modifications to the stock cart.
14 Any thing that might affect the problem

My cart had the temp light come on almost immediately after moving. It was the motor. The windings were shorting out. It was still going but it was slower than normal.

Frank please list additional info.
15 what color is cart
16 what is your favorite color
17 what is your sign
18 what were you thinking when the car overheated
19 who did you vote for
20 what is the name of your neighbors dog ( the one that barks)
21 Adam & Eve or Adam & Steve
22 favorite ice cream

The answers to these questions will help us get to the root of your problem

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Been out of town for a week, couldn’t answer. The car is a 2005 GEM E2.
GE 5 hp motor…don’t know about short or long.
Everything is still original from the factory, only has 2500 miles on it.
Factory motor, controller, charger. Only modifications that I have done was to put 14" 275x65 tires and aluminum wheels about 3 years ago. No mods to the controller. The cart is in Phoenix area, some flats, some hills in our community, all good roads, no off road stuff. Just a neighborhood car, to long hauls at top speed. Light comes on now after about 5-6 miles and seems to be getting worse…shorter distance before it comes on. Any ideas from before I haul it to a dealer would be appreciated.

275x65x14 tires are 28 inches in diameter. Are you sure of the size?

Compatible tire sizes for GEM cars run from 19.5 to 23 inches in diameter.

If your tires are really that large this is your problem. You also don’t have much braking power.

They are 14 inch tires

He means the Diameter. 28" would not fit an normal Gem.

Tires were a typo…they are 175x65 on 14 in rims

Ok 23 inch tires, 10.35 gears, short 5 motor. Your at the limits of a short 5’s happiness.
I would suggest you disassemble the motor and clean out the nasty’s which tend to insulate it. Better yet would upgrade to a long 5 a 7 or a aftermarket performance motor. You could also go back to a 19.5 to 21 inch tire diameter.
