My First EV with a need for speed

I just got a 2014 Gem e2. A total newbie.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Nice! Welcome to the GEM car family. Hope you enjoy it

Nice looking GEM, you have really shined it up , it looks brand new. They are great for running errands and cheap to operate. Don’t forget to get insurance because they are considered cars when on the street. Have fun

buy a magic magnet from inwo on here . takes 1 minute to install and raises your top speed

Hello kinghappy
Good idea, but after a lot of reading I don’t
know if it will help. Am I correct?

03/26/2014 mfg date
185/60 R14 tires @ 914 revolutions per mile
7 HP motor @ 4100 rpm
10.35 to 1 axel
120 miles on e2 with 20 miles on new gem gels

(((4100*60) / 10.35) / 914) = 26.00 mph max

Need more rpm
Need good lithium battery setup

Would like to get 40 mph for short traffic runs.
What do you all think?

Peter

The MM from Dave will allow your GEM to go beyond the factory limit set at 26mph. I installed one and it works great. Actually had mine up to 45mph on a downhill street lately.
Alan

@GR8EV why dont you think a mm will work ?

@LithiumGods
7HP motor with max of 4100 rpm.

i assume the black 7hp advanced motor ? Had one of those in my 2014 cart , added lithium and reprogrammed to 37 mph, a few months later motor violently self destructed , locked up the front wheels while i was driving . Fortunately didn’t get hurt and didn’t damage the trans . dont know for sure what caused it but it was unfixable and scary .

@LithiumGods
A car guy all my life, I will not run “red line”.
Lost a rod racing a friend’s GTO when I was a kid.
The OEM 7HP is rated 4100 rpm max “red line”.
Will need to convert to a 6000 rpm motor.
Thanks for confirming limitations of OEM.

That sounds horrific and scary. This is good info for people to know.

@Old_Houseboater for this. Can’t upload it here.
As you can see oem exceeds the listed rpm . That number is not a red line . Most likely relates to efficiency and continuous operation at rated hp. My Tomberlin has a 3500 GE motor and runs close to 5000 stock. Small tires and >12/1 gears.
Bursts of 6,000 should be ok IMO. I keep under 5800 myself.
@LithiumGods was pushing 7,000 rpm I bet. Maybe he can report tire dia. and gearing.

@Inwo
Thanks for the info. I agree with you, 4100 is not red line.
Engineers would have built in a margin for longevity and
safety. The only question is, what is the true top rpm?
