I have found the stock heater for $675 does anyone have a better priced source or other heater options that they have installed that have worked well? I live in Washington State so it is rainy and cool here a lot. The biggest issue is the windows fogging more than the warmth as I have a heated jacket.
I considered the Heater Craft electric car heater for $299. It says for this price it is a complete kit, but it does not say what is in the kit. Although the heating element is available in 72V, it is not clear if the blower is available in 12V. One place their web site mentions 12V, and in another it says the blower is a 3 speed blower with 48V so it is not clear if you just get the lower blower speeds if using 12V.
Pure Parts Polaris shows the GEM heater at $577.99. If I knew that would mount with no problems in my 2002 GEM (it says it is for 2005 and up), I think I would spring for that. I can handle reworking the electrical, but I don’t want a heater unit that will not fit well in the dash.

I spoke to the very helpful folks at HeaterCraft and they said the hoses and vents are included along with all of the wiring.
My new truck has doors, so I’ll be waiting to see how it goes.
I’m getting too old to be out in the open blowing snow.
Anyone put a plow on a Gem?
Loong sidewalk.

Funny you should ask about the Plow, I was wondering how these would do in the snow and if a small plow would be too much for the frame or not…
Haven’t given much though, but as it’s front drive, there might be an attachment point to the suspension. Or suspension mount.
Not sure you’d have enough heft or traction to run a plow pushing any serious snow. Maybe some light dry snow but anything more? Rodney will probably close this thread now because topic has drifted from heater to snow plowing! VBG
received the heater kit for the GEM and now for the life of me cannot find the heater installation instructions that I KNOW I found through the search before… Does anyone have the GEM/Polaris install guide for the heater? Doesn’t look too bad but need to figure out a few things the install instructions would shed some light on. BTW this heater kit does not have a high/low fan/heat switch function just a single on/off switch and no leads to the high/med on the fans board…
IssaquahWA1979, did you get the Heater Craft heater or one from GEM? If the Heater Craft please post photos and a description of your install. If it goes well for you, I would like to try one.
the GEM factory heater is the heatercraft… The only difference between the kit on heatercrafts website and the GEM (other than the ridiculous 3x the price) is the HC kit has two outputs for air instead of 3. They sell a Y and additional vent cover to add the 3rd. Another great example of companies over charging their customers for a private label item with absolutely no logical reason for it.
Did you find the install guide for the heater? If so, please share. If you have pictures of your install and any tips on getting the heater installed, please post them. My wife is really wanting me to get a heater installed in my '02 and I would like to see what I am getting into.

i have the same problem with my 2002
please let me know if anyone has schematic or documentation
thank you i advance
I never found any installation instructions, but it turned out to be relatively straight forward to wire. I used 2 relays, 1 to control the heater element and 1 to control the fan. I used a DPDT switch so that center is off, up is fan and heat, and down is fan only. What I don’t recall off the top of my head, is where I pulled the power from the GEM car from.
