I’ve purchased all my components for my 1986 VW Golf EV conversion and have started to remove ICE, and start the long conversion process.
When I fall asleep at night i still worry about what batteries to use … hahah
I’m using
a WaRP impulse 9"
500A controller (i beleive i’d have to check)
120V system
6v or 12V batteries are fine.
i would love to keep the cost of my pack below 2000
My goals:
at the very least 30miles
Avg spd of ~45mph would be ideal
Know of any batteries that would work for my situation!?
Or at least some battery specs I should try and meet/exceed?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

well, figure about 300Wh/milefor a car, 45 miles or range would give you about 13,500Wh of power needed. overshoot a little for peukert and inefficiencies.
that’d be 120V (10 batteries) with 120Ah or so (14,400Wh pack).
Start looking for something that’d give you those numbers 12V 120Ah batteries.

frodus,
thank you so much.
i’ve run those same numbers many of times, and thats what i’ve gotten.
thanks for double checking my guess. i’ll search.

no problem…
Its better to overshoot a little … or reconsider your range requirements.
Good luck! keep a blog or EValbum entry though, for others to follow.

don’t forget the 8V option, kind of a happy medium for lead acid.

… but with fewer options for chargers and balancing when the back does go out of balance…
