Gem e2, 2 seater 2002 E825 Lithium Upgrade(tighter fit)

If it was me, I’d just rewire with one more module in series, for 11modules. 22s. And disconnect the spare.
If you worry about Gem not accepting 90v, it’s an easy (cheap) fix.

Now Joe says to take it all apart and use 20 modules

Good call!
More capacity and performance with more. But pushing it a little with over 20.
See what Dklsc says before taking them out physically.
As they’re mounted now, it’s Just a matter of changing taps for testing.

Actually they were pretty well balanced. I tested them after i took them out and I had run them 10 miles and recharged them lightly a few times. But i am waiting for Joe to diagram it out in non EE or non electrician form my novice comprehension.

Picture of a customers 24s Leaf.
Just skip one or two on the right side (plus) for less.

I have a 2 seater…not that simple…will be 4 packs of 5…each trojan bay can only fit 5 Leaf modules

Or 5 packs of 4…10 packs of 2 modules…each 2 modules can be considered 1 module…but i will post while doing it…waiting for schematic for electrically challenged

“Palms to face”

Your keeping a flooded lead acid for ballast. Ok Nuff said.

Here’s a picture of Grant’s. Can’t comment more than that.

I won’t need FLA Trojan ballast since I now will be using 20 Leaf modules and my GF has been eating too many T bones. Also, I have a two seater. You suggesting I take out my emergency brake also to remove even more weight? wtf? That is right where my emergency brake is. Also, the FLA battery compartment borders would shove it up even higher.

My 2 seater can handle Qty 2 sets of 5 modules up front. and Qty 2 sets of 5 modules(or jam in 4 sets of 5) under seat neatly. Well I could shoehorn in all qty 4 sets of 5 modules(but not like this pic) under the seat but might as well have some weight up front. Jamming em in too tight is also dangerous with metal so close.

5 Leaf Modules fit in each of my FLA battery compartments; the sixth module would be shoved up a few inches. I don’t want to take my angle grinder and cut away Gem metal structures.

Gotcha, that’s why the picture with no comment.
You can only work with the room you have.
I mounted batteries outside the frame rails. Not Leaf though, so don’t know how that would work.

Outside the frame rails is OK on golf courses but not on the mean streets of LA, CA! Tesla had
to install some strong metal to protects its battery pack.

That makes sense, Your way ahead of me. No traffic where I am.
Hope you take my suggestions for what they’re worth. Just sharing what others have done.
I enjoy following the path others take.

Ok I take back my comment. I totally forgot that your ebrake cables are in the way. I was thinking. Why Dosent he just put the 20 cell battery in the center where I installed my’n. But then you explained about your ebrake.

And as far as ballast I think the Air Shocks would be perfectly valved and sprung for a E-2 vs a E-4 your car being lighter then a E4 I think it would work out great.

Btw I love the T-Bone joke gave me a good laugh

Waiting for pictures of 10 “modules”.
I’m assuming that will be 10 double modules in series.
Each module will have a twin paralleled next to it.
That will make a 120ah plus system and keep some weight up front.
Sounds like the perfect setup.
Let us know what you get for milage.
And don’t forget to check each module for matching voltage before parallel connection. Sparks will fly if one is bad or different soc.
Also it’s one last check of polarity. Some leafs are backwards, I’ve heard!

Finished assembly…probably installing tomorrow

I sprayed the top of my nuts to keep polarity straight and the crabs away!

You have a mfr? part number? brand? dimensions of those shocks?

Perfect, I like it.
Marking polarity a necessary step. First thing I do, and yet I can still mess up.
I lose track. You have a charger yet?

Split it up into 5 groups of 4. Easier egress and ingress. But have to bolt the groups of modules
down–but, that is pretty easy with garden bender board, metal straps which I insulate with heat
shrink tubing and corner brackets.

I’ll contact you tomorrow when I get started on mine. Installing 20 modules. I’m still at work for the night.
