I have a 08 gem e2 new brake switch adjusted properly i set e brake lever down and it will go in reverse only no forward gears. I swapped f1 and f2 on motor to see if it will go forward and it does. Does anybody have any testing i can do or have had this problem? No codes either
I’m not quite sure why you are tagging this as a handbrake issue?
If the car moves, then brake switch is working properly.
What you should be looking at is the Dash Display for clues.
When you switch to Rev, then the display should move the indicator bubble over to the REV, the car should beep, and pressing the Accel Pedal will move the car backwards.
When you switch to Low or High does the indicator bubble follow your choice?
Does the Dash Display change to a number and a yellow wrench appear?
Or does the dash start blinking?
and you also need to fill brake fluid to stop parking brake light
Brake fluid level is full, when i turn key and switch between R DL and DH the bubble follows and when i set parking brake down the light goes off in reverse only DL and DH it stays lit in the top left corner
Read my post (above) again. I am still waiting for answers and clarification.
I replied with what it does. No flashing no yellow wrench nothing. I hit gas pedal and it does nothing brake light on. Switch to reverse brake light goes off hear a loud click and goes in reverse fine. Switch to DL or DH brake light stays on and no change on dash no click.
I replied with what it does.
You did? I do not see it. From what I see, you did not respond at all after my post. I thought you needed time to absorb what I was asking.
I think I saw a post much like this same issue over on FB? A guy (Matt) posted almost the same issue as this. His dash flashed.
This is the first time I have ever seen such a thing. [Hand brake status changes between changing gears] Let me see if I can duplicate this.
What is history on this car?
When was it last working properly?
Have you been working on it lately?
Is your upper dash panel removed?
I just purchased it from somebody that was driving it and it stopped on them randomly, they replaced the switch on the parking brake and it would go into reverse but no forward motion. All i really have for information on it previously. The dash cover is off now as i was checking the relays and such with a pdf i was given with the gem.
This is where I always start-
1, KeyOFF, HandBrakeUP, MainBattSwON.
[Car is in “Stand By” mode and quiet.]
2. Drop HandBrake. A constant beep tone should come from the dash.
Verify (Y/N)?
Three ways to silence beep
a. HandBrakeUP
b. KeyON
c. MainBattSwOFF
Verify (Y/N)?
Yes only in reverse. If i do this in DL or DH its silent no noises or clicks besides the slight click from the parking brake switch when i release it.
KeyOFF? It shouldn’t matter where your select switch is positioned.
I will check shortly and report back
Ok so key off, handbrake up, battery switch on. I drop handbrake and no noise at all.
Hmmm… Some weirdness going on here.
Possibly some creative wiring.
Do you have a meter?
Down at the handbrake, on the micro switch itself, there will be two wires.
Red/w should have +12v (ref ChassGnd)
if yes, verify that it goes to the tan wire when brake handle dropped.
What do you see?
Oh, and the wires should be on the top two switch tabs.
I have a red and white and then a tan wire on the micro switch. Only had .3 volts and when i drop handle it switches to .4 volts
Bingo-
Now- To confirm what you were seeing earlier, If you select REV, KeyON, and do this test again, Do you see 12v on the Red/W?
Then switch to FWD and it goes away?
[Edited to reflect Key position]
Where did you go? I hour later and no response?
Man- we were on a roll too.
Hey Boosty! Where did you go?
Did you figure it out?
