My e2 has suddenly started throwing the -66 code. Sometimes after a mains disconnect and restart it might work. The last time I made it 2 blocks from home. It ran until I came to the stop sign. Applied the brakes and boom. The error code shows up and now it won’t come back out of error. The display will show normal when it turns on, but as soon as I release the parking brake the code pops on.
I’ve done some measurements and it appears I have about 4 meg ohms from the field windings to the case. The outside of the motor is quite dirty and some oil build-up so is it possible it just needs the internals cleaned up?

A proper motor service certainly won’t hurt anything.
What type of meter did you use to take the field to casing insulation leakage measurement?
I used a standard DVM. After taking the connections loose and the motor removed, I sprayed some contact cleaner around the inside by the field windings. Prior to the spray, I was getting 4-6 megs. After spraying, it now reads about 500K ohms.
I do electronic repairs so I am comfortable with the meter. I don’t have a megger and I’m sure it would really show lower resistance with a higher voltage.
If it comes down to a repalcement motor, does anyone have a line on one?
That is very true on the megger. About 5 years ago I picked up a Fieldpiece brand megger, it’s simplistic: numeric readout only, super slimline, 1000v range only, but it matched the readings from my analog sweep Biddle megger every time. $119 back then. I was impressed, I was just looking for a tall skinny megger that would fit in my shoulder bag so I could carry it around the plant easily.
Anyway, 2007, is going to probably be the long GE 5hp. It’s been a while, maybe longer than I think, but @LithiumGods and @Old_Houseboater each had some serviced motors for sale at one time.
