2000 e4 cart- error 41

Hi there I need a little bit of advice. We purchased a gym cart three months ago and it will not go a mile without overheating. We figured out that one of the batteries was throwing a code saying that the batteries were bad but it was just one of them so we replace that one but when we went to replace it the guy said we had the incorrect type of batteries in the cart. Supposedly these batteries are meant for a car whereas we need deep cycle gel cooled batteries. My question is if we switch out all six batteries for these deep cycle gel cold batteries will the overheating issue quit. We just don’t want to spend $1600 if the issue will not be fixed.

No, changing the batteries will not fix an over temp of the motor or the controller.

That problem would be with the controller, motor or locked up brakes.

The mechanic is right that automotive starting batteries don’t belong in gems. You need deep cycle. But, you can only put gell batteries in a cart as old as yours if the charger has been replaced with something newer. The original chargers would over charge and ruin gell batteries within a few months. The old chargers only work with flooded batteries.

batteries do not throw codes but they can cause the controller and/or charger to “throw codes”. If the overheating was on the battery terminal or in the battery connector then replacing the batteries and making good electrical connections would prevent that over heating problem.

But if the controller was throwing an overheating code then it is the controller which is over heating. Low battery voltage can cause more current to be used to provide requested power and might cause over heating but usually the controller will throw low voltage warnings.
