Why is a Tesla car warranty only 4 years but 8 years for batteries?

There may be a relatively simple answer to this but why is the Tesla Motors car warranty only four years but eight years for the batteries and drive units? Will this put some people off buying a Tesla in the future?

Surely there must be a simple answer to this?

EZ Nobody would buy one with the prospect of having to buy a set of batteries during their initial ownership.
