That would certainly be possible if the mainstream media have any links to “Big Oil”, and I suppose there has been some evidence of that over the years. But these days they are also becoming increasingly sensational in the way they report events, which might also be a factor here.

I think the media has somewhat of a “Love Hate” relationship with Tesla and Musk. They love the “Tony Stark” persona Musk seems to portray with SpaceX , SolarCity and Tesla, but as is typical for the current climate in our country, they begrudge the 1%ers that can actually afford a $100K+ vehicle.

Not unlike they way they report on any and every mishap in the General Aviation community. For whatever reason, even the smallest of events is headline news for those that have not taken the time to learn to fly.
