Ok, but this controller model is only made for Gem, isn’t it? So it had to have come from a Gem?
No, tons of companies use Sevcon’s - The part numbers and model numbers can be different.
Unless it states it is from Polaris for your model car it will not work.
What won’t work about it?
Are the comms between it and the user display special?
Or is it some special coding that they are keeping close?
All the motor and can bus (charger/BMS/gauge cluster) programming is proprietary to Polaris (maybe some of the hardware).
We can read some of the settings from a factory controller but most of the data is not reachable.
What are your plans for this car? You seem to have the time and knowledge needed to get it running.
As long as you have no dealer support, I can get you a generic controller that will work, except for speedometer, without all the Polaris crap.
It needs a little rewiring, but it seems that you have the time.
Less money than a new controller from Polaris.
Yeah I do have the time and I hope I have the knowledge, it’s a vehicle that I’m trying to fix for my unit to use. I am lacking parts/funding to buy them.
I can help you get it running with one of my controllers. Not sure about how to ship. Actually Korea is where I find surplus Sevcon controllers.
See this:
Take a look at your motor. Most likely 5kw, which is ok, but I’m testing on my 6.5 kw motor.
So if I program it for 5kw it will be untested.
I suppose, possibly send it to @Erniea15 for testing, then he would forward it to you.
Is there a special way for your unit to receive parts? From family or such.
S4 48v Sevcon Gen4 are hard to find low cost.
Ok. Yes it is a 5kw motor. Also the base I’m on has a post office, so it could be sent through USPS. How much would you charge for it?
I need to get input from some of the guys. Like to help you out, but I don’t know if you are a good candidate for the upgraded controller.
I have a feeling, someone on here will give you a killer deal on an OEM controller. I bricked one of mine and the other one may need to be put back in my 2018 truck.
Does a flat rate domestic USPS box get to you?
Okay no problem I really appreciate your help. And yes flat rate domestic boxes will work.
That will help a lot in the case controller needs returning.
I may even be able to lend you a controller for substitution testing.
Do you do PayPal from an account with proper shipping address?
I’ll pm you.
@MikeKC @djgabriel2004
What way should I go here to be the most help?
1.Find him an oem 5kw controller?
2. Sell him a generic controller and harness?
3. Look for someone else to send/lend him a controller? (With deposit)
Is 25mph top speed ok the way you will be using the car?
Yeah 25Mph is perfect
If you want to go the OEM route I have a stock controller that came from my 2016. It is already programmed so it should work
It was running with a 5kW motor
If it doesn’t work in your Gem you can return it.
That would be great, how much would you want for it?
$650 shipped
Feel free to test it and return it if it doesn’t work.
You pay shipping both ways
