2002 Loss of Power after Lithium Conversion

Just tried this, same results. Also dropped 2 cells, no help. I have two spare controllers, I’m going to switch it out for science…

I seem to have been able to tune it out of mine by dropping the max current setting. Stupid me, I forgot to print the settings so I can share. Will try to do that this evening if I have time. All this playing around, I had mine so messed up that I didn’t even realize it was so bad til I had to drive across the community and literally had to modulate the throttle to keep it from doing this. That motivated me to reset back to original and figure it out. Still need to put some weight in the car and climb the hills to see what it does under heavy load, but I think I have it.

That would be awesome. I spoke to R4F this morning, helps being a Long Islander, he gave me new setting which I loaded and got the same results. He was kinda flustered on the phone and didnt have much time to speak but he did say to test the potentiometer again and make sure that its working properly. I have done that in the past and it was fine, Ill try again tonight. Here are his settings…

Did you mention that you were running it at 96+V?

Yes, multiple times, whether or not he absorbed it is a different story.

Interesting. I wonder if they’ve ever done any testing at those voltages or if it just didn’t sink in what you were saying. Have you run your batteries down to mid 80V range to see if the problem exists at lower voltages?

I have tested at 28, 27, 26 and still get the same shutter while accelerating. I’m going to start playing around with max current. Did you drop #4 current limit by anything substantial or just by a few points?

I took it all the way to 200 to see if it made a difference figuring if it did, I’d work my way back up til I find the sweet spot. 200 ran great so I stopped.

Did it hurt top speed at all?

Dropped #4 to 200 then 100, same results. This is making me crazy. I can’t drive on a main road! Any other thoughts?

At this point I would even pay someone to come up with a solution.

Is this what you replied to previous? Same in turf mode?
May be a hardware problem.

Same in turf mode. Went up up and down in the settings and same to both sides of the spectrum.

I’m about to get on a teleconference but after I’m done, I will go connect my laptop and pull my settings. I didn’t perceive any loss of speed at 200. I have my max set at 36 and still would hit that no problem.

So same surging in turf mode? Strange.

My current settings are below. I still have a very subtle surging that is almost not noticeable. Need to play with it more but its definitely tolerable. You can see that I ran the current limit back up and it still was fine. The whole thing is confusing me. I need to start recording each change in a spreadsheet and start looking for correlations with changes. Takes so much effort and patience, not to mention my neigbors wondering why I keep flying by their house over and over. LOL

So what I learned today is that its not a controller issue. I have two spare T2’s so I swapped one out thinking maybe something was up but I got the same results with R4F’s settings, except I lowered #4 to 225.

Now Im back to looking for other hardware issues. Any thoughts anyone? Pedal potentiometer, motor brushes???

Well don’t I feel stupid…

Side one

Side two

Notice a difference? Anyone have a lead on a new pot that I can have overnighted?

Spray contact cleaner in it.

Wow, I thought you had tested that. Now I’m going to check mine to see if its got linearity issues.

@Inwo having one 2nd day’ed to my from nev accessories. I don’t think I have any cleaner here but I do have alcohol. I’ll see if I can clean it up.

@Mr.Vern I did check it previous to the symptoms starting. Just my luck.
