Former Volvo boss plays down electric car industry

Stefan Jacoby, the former boss of Volvo, has today suggested that the electric vehicle market will never catch on and never become mass-market. He believes there is a place in the niche environment for cars such as the Nissan Leaf but believes focus will slowly move towards hybrid vehicles which offer a halfway house between traditional fuel powered cars and electric vehicles.

This is not the first time we have seen negative comment from leading figures in the automotive world although whether they have a different agenda to the rest of us is open to debate. The reality is that billions upon billions of dollars have been poured into the electric vehicle market, technology is improving and consumers are slowly but surely understanding the benefits of environmentally friendly travel. Who will be right in the end?
