# What's this scam about?

I keep seeing the same red GEM pop up with a “too good to be true and probably isn’t” price. What is the scam about? Harvesting emails or phone numbers?

A few years ago I was looking for a certain model classic car and I kept running into the same picture all over the country. I think that they were hoping to get someone to send a down payment sight unseen.

This Scam is quite common. People post up a Item that everyone wants for cheep. They get lots of reply’s. The fake seller asks you to text or email them Outside of Craig’s list protected email. (Craig’s list hides your email) the fake seller wants your real email to add to a List. They compile these lists and sell the list to whoever.

Example they could “I’m not saying they do” but they could sell a list of emails to Polaris, saying these people are looking to buy a GEM”

ahhh good call. I had a hunch it was a marketing tactic. THanks for laying it all out.
