Can anyone tell me how to test my ride for fun 2002 GEM cart, the motor is a separately excited (or “sepex”) motor

I have replaced the bushes and installed the motor on the cart… The motor passes the continuity test. I would like to apply 12 V to the motor to see if it runs. I believe that I have other issues like maybe a **bad controller cause the cart still will not run**. So, before I send the controller out to get checked/rebuilt I would like to know that motor runs with the new brushes.

So, my question is where do I apply 12V to the motor for test purpose? I understand that these motors are a separately excited motor and applying power for test purposes may be different then a series or parallel motor. Thanks MB

I’ve done a search and cannot find any information on how to test a separately excited motor on applying power for test purposes on a ride for fun motor…

you would need a DC voltage for the field then you can start applying voltage to the armature.

You are safe applying 12v direct to field and armature to see if motor spins. Parallel connect F and A.

After 2 mos of poking around and determining that your car is horribly mis-wired and is in no condition to work properly as it is,
As well as your controller is most likely suspect/damaged from being submitted to being brutally bypassed, You are _ **STILL** _ stuck on this?

I really am not sure what you are trying to prove by doing this.
But OK.

Connect +12v to both A1 and F1
Connect -12v to both A2 and F2
-or-
Connect A1 to F1 with a short cable.
Apply +12v to A2
Apply -12v to F2

Prepare for sparks and violence.

I spent the time and money in replacing the brushes and just wanted to justify moving forward with repairing/replacing the controller and repairing the wiring mess I have. The motor works!
Thank you, Sir, for staying with me… MB
(I have a problem with giving up to easy)
