thank you. This is quickly getting over my head. I have a 2007 e6 six
passenger Gem Car. It currently has 6 Gel batteries in it. What is needed
for the lithium conversion and how much do the parts cost? I am in San
Diego. thanks Phil

It may very well be more than you want to tackle.
IMO, you need:
4 pcs 44v Chevy Volt modules
That’s all you need to run and drive. Charger will work somewhat as-is.

Beyond that, I recommend a monitor.

$350 , But then, I would, as I sell them. 🙂
$50-$100 reprogram charger.
Wiring harness and small parts to connect it all ~ $100

> I just completed my Chevy volt lithium install. Thanks to all of the information on this forum, and some back and forth info from Dave (inwo). I bought my GEM having never driven or rode in one. But I do have a golf cart with 6 flooded batteries in it so how different could it be? When I purchased my GEM the batteries were completely dead and would not turn on at all, but the price was embarrassingly cheap so I took a chance on it. I priced batteries from Polaris Gem dealer, Costco, and oth…

It’s worth the research and time of install.

Thanks for sharing. Voltage is the same 6×12v Or some have 9x8v.
E6 should have more room. Grant knows. (All)😀

Where as I would be very much inclined to install lithium batteries in my 2009 GEM I do not have time as I have been diagnosed with leukemia and will have to start chemo in next few months and have other things I need to get done. I just want to know where I can buy nine 8 volt gel batteries for my car. I designed boats with lithium batteries 6 years ago. I just want to get my car running so I can sell it.

So sorry to hear. Hope things go well for you.
Post your location, someone may be near enough to help out.
Rodney recommends low cost batteries when selling, but 8v may not be as common.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I live in south central Missouri. Any info would be helpful to keep costs down.

EASY AND CHEAP DIY

1)Split a low mile junkyard battery pack with someone else; I met Troy here and we split a whole late mile Nissan Leaf Lithium battery pack for 2800 ie 1400 my COST with spare modules left over
2)The Blue BMS works find and I find it necessary COST 350
3)I simply had my charger reprogrammed COST120
4)No special monitoring/turnoff relay system was necessary and was a waste of time.
5)I repurposed my existing battery cables; a couple I had to cut and solder/clamp new ends on.
6)Put on bigger wheels and tires–how big depends on how hilly an area you live in; this brought me up to 32 MPG instead of 25 MPH
RESULTS AT LEAST DOUBLE THE RANGE AND AT LEAST 4X THE LIFE SPAN
7)WHILE WORKING ON BATTERIES USE GLOVES AND ELECTRICAL TAPE ON ANY SOCKETS OR WRENCHES OR SCREWDRIVERS YOU ARE GOING TO USE.
