I’d like to disable the backup beeper on my 2008 GEM E2. Anybody know how to do that?

Lift the seat turn the main switch off. Take off the dash cover and you will see a sonalert(black plastic speaker looking thing) next to the contactor. It has two wires going to it. Just pull one of the spade lug wires off…

I don’t think the 2008 works the same. Atleast I don’t see the sonalert there.

As a last resort turn the main switch and key on and switch to reverse. You should now hear it to locate…

hi

its easy, just cut the DB/LG darkblue light green cable on controller
its on pin 10,"reverse buzzer driver"
cut a bit away and you can connect again if you want
i have done it on 3 cars now 😉

if you need backup summer you have a cable under your seat
darkblue with yellow
and you can put a summer at back of car or a backlight if you want

One person suggested putting duct tape over the beeper to mute it.

I like that idea. If someone unfamiliar with the car drives it, the beeper can be a nice feature.

How difficult is it to remove the dash cover?

Open the hood and remove the 2 attaching screws. Then lift the dash off’ It has a lot of Velcro holding it in place

ok… the non-electrician here… can I tie into that for a back up light that would come on when I put the car in reverse?

If someone has a more legible wiring diagram, I would draw it up.

This relay comes from reverse switch in other drawing.

I have a 2008 e6, and I can’t find the beeper…

I have a 2008 eS - beeper is on the left side of the steering column - mounted to the fire wall…

The alarm is also used for parking brake warning and possibly others. 🙂

Now if I could just figure out how to post dwg?

I also would like to silence the backup beeper but how do I access it? Suposedly the backup beeper is on the left side of the steering coulmn but removal of the dashboard seems like the first step, how do I remove the dash? (2005 E4)

Hi mike7959.

The advice in post 12 from dlwford from Oct 2018 is incorrect and NOT the beeper you are looking for. The beep device he points out is actually the Turn Signal Reminder That sounds off if left on too long.

There are two paths you can take to silence the reverse/backup beeper. I agree with you. That ear splitting screamer is way too loud.
Each method has it’s Pros/Cons. You decide which is best for you.

- Tape over the beeper
- Cut the wire

**Use Tape?**
The back up beeper is actually buried inside the PSDM (fuse box) and not very easy to get to(probably to keep you from messing with it). Quieting it down is actually my preferred method as it leaves the beeper still active, but quieter. The beep give you a audible hint/warning at which direction you might be heading when you press the pedal, but the second use of this beeper also serves as a reminder to set your hand brake that keeps your car from rolling away when you KeyOFF and exit the vehicle. The third (unattended) personal trick is that I use that beep as part of a diagnostic step/routine when a car does not power up as expected.

**Cut the wire?**
The easy way. I have not tried this method, but others have claimed success and satisfaction. Personally, I HATE butchering up perfectly good wire harnesses. Cutting this wire has potential to also deactivate the Hand Brake warning (I suspect that it does). I don’t think it kills the Reverse/Back Up lights (if your car has this option).

**Which method is best for you?**
If you are having trouble getting the dash panels off, then I do not think you will be able to get to the beeper to quiet it down. The process is quite involved just getting inside that black box.

Instead, you should probably take the easy route and cut the signal wire coming from the controller.

**Cut the wire method**
Up front under your hood is your motor controller. It is a gray box with a couple of large cables going to it, and also a bundle of small wires in a harness.
Orient yourself to this plug and seek out wire 10. It should be Blue with a Green stripe.

Cut the wire with enough distance from the main plug so it can be reconnected later by the next guy.

Tape the loose ends into the bundle so they are protected from the elements.

Enjoy your new ability to back down the driveway in silence.
