Petrol/Gas cost vs electricity comparison. Type of driving - City Car - 2003 Lincoln Town Car NEV - 99 GEM 4 seater (Modified) Gas Cost - $2.10 per Gallon Electricity - $.141 Per KW Meter - DOS238-4 Single Phase Energy Meter Energy Cost per mile Car 12.9 cents NEV 5.5 cents On an unmodified NEV you would probably do better as I usually have my foot in it. Like wise the Lincoln only gets a little over 16 MPG in town. A smaller car gets over 20. However: with all that being said, this is real world numbers. Rodney ---

Energy cost may be low but battery cost alone was $.40/mile for my Tomberlin E4. (4-5 years) Around 2000 miles required $800 battery swap. My understanding is that batteries had been replaced previous. I’ll see how I do this time. I wonder how others fare? Often hear 7+ years for agm. How about miles? ---

It will be interesting to see how battery technology has improved over the years. Has it improved by as much as they tell us? ---

For all practical purposes miles are irrelevant. If you plug in after every use and don’t discharge below 50% You will get the best possible life. If you have flooded keep them watered. ---

Good point - We tend to focus on only one aspect of ownership - mostly energy cost. If were honest with ourselves we need to figure the total cost of owning, insuring, maintaining and feeding our vehicle over its projected period of ownership. In my case the GEM is an expensive toy that I can’t justify on a monetary basis. It’s my fun thing so I smile and enjoy it for what it is.
