# Can I change the charging algorithm for marine lead acid batteries using the stock silver charger?

I swapped out the dead gel batteries for some marine lead acid batteries and it ran and charged fine until my original cluster went out. I purchased a used rebuilt cluster and now the batteries last less than 7-10 miles.

I think that is the expected result. @Old_Houseboater has done the most research on running wrong profile.

The old stock silver chargers had two algorithms, gel and wet. The shop manual tells you how to switch between the two. FYI, those chargers aren’t the best.
