# Battery Change Over/Upgrade

Hello,
I am new to the forum. I have a 2002 Gem, 2 passenger car. It has the original Gel batteries which are, obviously, in need of replacement.
I am trying to make the decision as to whether I simply change them out for new Deka Gel batteries, use a different brand, or work through the process of upgrading to another form of battery. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Wellcome to the forum. Have same GEM. First off run your VIN at [http://nhtsa.gov/](http://nhtsa.gov/) to see if any open recalls, Polaris fixed my parking brake as well as a new DC/DC converter under warranty.
Regarding batteries, lithium conversion is the only way to go. Car will run faster and further with no maintenance issues inherent with lead acid. Lots of info on this forum!
