I just got done installing a 51.2 volt 100ah Litime lithium battery on my 2018 Polaris Gem. I was under the impression it should just be a matter of putting it in and it should run right with it, however I am getting all kinds of faults on the display.

Will I need to get the computer reprogrammed for a higher voltage or how do I get around this?

No, much more involved than just replacing the battery.
You need support from the seller, or buy from someone who supports new Gem upgrades.

I found out I needed to charge my battery all the way to get it out of Sleep. My question now is, is there a way to get the original Zivan charger to put out 58.4v? It seems like it is not putting out enough voltage to charge. I have a Litime 58.4v charger here but I would really like to use the factory charger if possible.

I think it depends on what kind of battery you’re replacing. My GEM has similar battery which replaced an AGM distance pack. That profile on my delta Q puts out the voltage needed to charge the lithium battery. I’m not familiar with ZIVAN chargers but I imagine the BMS in your GEM is telling it what to do so your BMS would need to be flashed to AGM distance pack.

I had the AGM distance pack in mine as well. It looks like this Zivan is only putting out 54v. Maybe someone knows how to reprogram them?

It is best to use a battery that is matched to the car. Rather than fight with the Polaris electronics.
I’ve had good results with 12s battery, like the oem lithium battery.
I have not used it with the Zivan charger, but only needs 50 volts for full charge.
Test car got 60 mile range from 10kwh battery.
Zivan is can bus control, not programmed. Iirc

Ok, thank you!
So you would not recommend the LiTime LiFePO4 51.2v 100AH GolfCart battery even if I add their charger and battery monitor?

I can reprogram the zivan, to make it charge it up till the voltage you want but it’s not gonna fix the other issues.

We spent a lot of time and money researching and finding the right batteries for 2016+

Good to know. Can you elaborate a bit on what issues I will see with the battery I have.

What setup do you recommend to get around 40-60mi range at 40mph?

I don’t want to get too technical but The Bms on these batteries is small so they tend to trip.
It might also trip on voltage spikes when regen too. Voltage drop is something that you should consider.
100A continuous is too low unless you drive on flat 1 person and not over 25 mph.

That makes sense, this one has a 200a BMS and I noticed on hard acceleration it will sometimes trip. I was thinking of adding a second battery if I increase speed on it.

What speed is your car going now?
And you want 40~60 mile range?
Be aware that speeding these cars up is a whole different game. It’s not a simple battery swap.

Just wondering. Does your charger stay at 54 volts for the entire charging cycle?
Mine starts out in low 50s but eventually gets up to 56 or 57 near the end of the cycle.

I didn’t leave it plugged in for more than 15min to try it. I could try longer and see what happens.

If you replaced an AGM distance pack, it should get up to just above mid 50s and charge your battery to 100%. I assume you got a monitor for your lithium battery. You should be able to watch the monitor and see what’s going on. The battery monitor will not match your dash display. Trust the battery monitor. You should get about 40 miles out of 100 Ah. Hard acceleration will test 200amp BMS. 2 of those batteries in parallel will get you about 80 mile range and reduce amps on the battery BMS.

I really appreciate all your input, my battery does have Bluetooth and I was watching but it never goes to charging when I have the factory charger plugged in.

How do you get over 40 miles and stay out of limp mode?

Guess I’m not sure. My dash shows 60 + miles when I get going. I haven’t tried going 60 miles yet to test the turtle. I wonder if the car Bms will sense enough voltage to put off turtle mode because the lithium holds voltage up to the very end.🤷‍♂️
