We are going to put an RFID push button start on our 2002 GEM. I would like someone to check my “math” here.

If I read correctly the key circuit uses a 72V ground to activate? -72v on one side and then latches to the other when the key is on.

The RFID kit only supplies +12V so I was going to use a Bosch relay as follows:

PIN 30 = switched -72V - when on - GEM is on - ORG/Green
PIN 87a = Constant -72V - Red/Green - pin 1 of charger
PIN 86 = 12V Ground
PIN 85 = +12V switched - activate ignition

Does this sound correct?

Thanks in advance

Can you share the key circuit for your model.
My schematics show 12v.

Hey I would like to here how your install worked and what kit you went with

@grantwest
I will be using one of these -

> **[Amazon.com: EASYGUARD EC004 Smart Rfid Car Alarm system Push Engine Start button & Keyless Go System Fits for most DC12V cars: Cell Phones & Accessories](https://www.amazon.com/EASYGUARD-system-Engine-button-Keyless/dp/B00HCAYQ0G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524056489&sr=8-1&keywords=keyless+start+ignition+kit)**

We already tried once and really screwed it up as I had no wiring diagrams to work with. I ended up putting +12v to -72V, that does not go over well.

I should be easy, one wire from the RFID unit to the relay and another to the brake sensor and all should be good. I will keep the thread updated.

They have 2 systems

#1 Push to start.
This system is like a regular button that as long as your finger is on the button the starter is turning. (Great for old cars that don’t fire up right away)
#2 one touch start
This system is for new cars. You simply touch the button one time and it starts the car.

Actually this system does #1 and #2, if you just touch it is triggers the starter wire for .74 seconds, if you push and hold it will trigger the starter wire continuous.

However, we are not even using the Starter wire.

The wives have an issue with the key location and orientation (and issues in general 🙂 ). This way they just walk up with RFDI fob and hit the start button - off they go.

Plus it just kinda cool, makes it feel like a current car.

Works with the MM to allow high speed when fob is near.
Built a couple of them and lost interest.

If I understand you correctly, you, having the fob with you could drive a high performance Gem car, while a lesser skilled driver would be restricted to stock performance. A safer situation all the way around.

I’m on a low budget for the time being. In fact I have received some criticism for starting this project, but I want a zero emissions and useful car for short trips. Eventually I may be forced to address getting better performance on hills. I live in Santa Cruz, CA, and there are several steep hills in town. I am going to try “Heartbreak Hill” in a few moments because there won’t be much traffic to worry about. I am a bit concerned that the angle may be enough to cause FLA batteries to spill. I’m hoping vented does not mean liquid comes out easily.

I have the stock 10" wheels so that may help with power.

I would like to know where you got that kit, Looks like it might have more range than the one I intend to use. We have to get within 3 inches of the ant. to activate the system.

I can look for it. Been a couple years.
It’s an active device. Meaning the fob has a battery.
I have to move it 3’ away and put it in a tin box to test it turning off.

If someone wants to play with it, I’ll send it with the next MM.

@grantwest

Wonder if the battery wasn’t dead when you tested it.
Took it out of the box after all this time, and it works fine with a new battery.
